CFI Kneeboard
Part 61 reference by DZ Aviation
Every requirement, traced to its source. Every regulation, ACS task and FAA handbook chapter a Part 61 syllabus has to cover, by certificate, each cite linked to its source.
Free to use, with no account.
What it is
A requirements map for flight instructors. Use it to build or audit a syllabus: if a line in the map has no lesson to point to, that is a gap.

Four certificates
- Private Pilot ASEL
- Instrument Airplane
- Commercial Pilot ASEL
- Flight Instructor Airplane
Each map has the same sections: how the sources fit together, knowledge areas, flight proficiency mapped to the ACS, aeronautical experience, endorsements and milestones, a source library, and a syllabus audit checklist. Regulation cites link to the eCFR, and every map records the date its regulations and ACS were checked.
Lesson plans are published for Private Pilot ASEL. The other three certificates have none yet.
What else is in it
- Students
- A training record per student, with notes and endorsements.
- Stage checks and the ACS guide
- Stage checks, and a guide to how the ACS works. They and the lesson plans can be edited in the app; the edits stay on that device, and the originals can be restored.
- Teaching aids
- Interactive one-pagers, for example required equipment for day, night, and IFR flight.
- Flight planning
- Links to the free official preflight tools (Aviation Weather Center, Flight Service briefing, NOTAM search, TFRs, NAS status), and a pressure and density altitude calculator.
- Forms and performance
- A fillable flight manifest with weight and balance and a FRAT, printable on two letter pages; weight and balance and performance charts; checklists and POHs.
- Practice
- Emergency checklist flashcards for the Cessna 172M and the Piper PA-28-181, and PA-28-181 cockpit flow drills.
- FAA library
- 14 CFR parts, handbooks, ACS and PTS, and advisory circulars, filterable by audience.
- Search and Zulu time
- Search across every section, rule, and ACS code. A Zulu clock converts UTC to local time.

Where your data lives
Students, notes, endorsements, and edits stay on your device. Nothing is uploaded to a server. Export a backup from Your data to move it to another device.
It works offline after the first visit; only the outside eCFR and FAA links need a connection. On iPhone and iPad, open it in Safari and tap Share, then Add to Home Screen.
Before you rely on it
Verify every requirement against the current eCFR and ACS before you rely on it. CFI Kneeboard is not affiliated with or endorsed by the FAA.
